(4)Facebook as social media

What is Facebook? Facebook also known as FB was founded by former Harvard student in the year 2004, to jointly conenct college students online and companies, according to Farkas (2007). To have an account in FB, one is required to have a valid emaila ddress and have to be at least 13 years of age. As with social networking software, this site provide space for users to post up pictures, making a list of friends as well as posting messages at 'The Wall'. Some of the software mentioned earlier are great tools in expanding one's circle of friends to dealing with business.

Looking from a market research angle, one may find that Facebook is an outlet to distinguish the likings and wants of others. According to Dean( 2008), since the launch of Facebook, there are a total of 168,000 developers who join in to create new applications. For example, Top Friends, an application to rate our friend's popularity has been estimated to be valued more than US$29 million. Hence, business oppurtunities are wide in this online community,looking at the ever increasing number of users woldwide.

In short, Facebook is a network where other people of similar interest, post and share pictures as well as videos and participate in unique interest grups, as commented by (Berkman 2008).
