Reflection

It has been an overwhelming experience to be able to blog on issue relating to the current issue faced in the media world.

I have learned to change templates and the color of the fonts. Though there may be times when I will get frustrated with adjusting the html codes, but I guess it is worth my time after all.

As a blog author, we are allowed to control the flow of comments in a post. Hence, this gave us freedom whether or not to publish it to the public's view. Hence, this is one feature that is quite interesting .

The one thing i have learned from this experience is that, as bloggers we have the freedom to speak our mind. However, we too have to be considerate of our reader's feelings and beliefs.

Lastly, I am glad that i have been able to complete this assignment to my utmost best. And I believe, being a blogger comes great responsibility where we do not necessarily need to pen down every thoughts we have on this world. Some thoughts are meant for memories in the heart.

Media Issue (4)

(4)Facebook as social media

What is Facebook? Facebook also known as FB was founded by former Harvard student in the year 2004, to jointly conenct college students online and companies, according to Farkas (2007). To have an account in FB, one is required to have a valid emaila ddress and have to be at least 13 years of age. As with social networking software, this site provide space for users to post up pictures, making a list of friends as well as posting messages at 'The Wall'. Some of the software mentioned earlier are great tools in expanding one's circle of friends to dealing with business.

Looking from a market research angle, one may find that Facebook is an outlet to distinguish the likings and wants of others. According to Dean( 2008), since the launch of Facebook, there are a total of 168,000 developers who join in to create new applications. For example, Top Friends, an application to rate our friend's popularity has been estimated to be valued more than US$29 million. Hence, business oppurtunities are wide in this online community, looking at the ever increasing number of users woldwide.

In short, Facebook is a network where other people of similar interest, post and share pictures as well as videos and participate in unique interest grups, as commented by (Berkman 2008).

(3) E-Books VS Print Books

An E-book is a book in a digital structure, it can be a document scanned into PDF (Portable Document Format) or it may appear in rich text format according to Pipes (2005). The availability of E-books in the World Wide Web is expanding daily, reaching out to a large targeted audience. On the other hand, print books have shorter shelf life than E-books.

When binding E-books, one must take account of the forms used. According to Walsh (2006), readers will go through different point of understanding the text when studying and analyzing the content. Hence, potential E-book publishers must take account the typography and images used, to avoid confusion among readers.

What are the benefits of an E-book consumer ?

-No additional weight when consumers purchase E-books
-Environmentally friendly (save the trees)
-User friendly
Hyperlinks: made available for users to link to similar page
Font adjustments: size of font can be altered according to the liking of the reader
-Order online at anytime
-Fast delivery of goods
( Greco et al. 2000)

In my opinion, I would opt for E-books as it is portable to almost anywhere as long as I have a laptop or a personal computer to access to the internet.
